David Stewart - Senior Expert

David Stewart is a senior expert at Global Concepts and widely respected in the industry.  He is experienced in managing complex and high-impact client studies.  He manages Global Concepts’ research practice and is actively involved in many of the studies Global Concepts performs.
 
In recent years, Mr. Stewart has been singularly engaged in creating reliable metrics and analytical models to improve business decision making by payments industry clients.  His work includes the following:
 

  • US Payments Map – Management of McKinsey & Company’s profit pools model for the US payments industry.  Includes modeling industry transaction volumes, revenues, and expenses and projecting five-year trends across all payments lines of business.
  • Federal Reserve Payments Study – Strategy development in 2000 for the Federal Reserve System to establish an ongoing research effort to estimate noncash payments volumes in the U.S.  Execution of studies in 2001, 2004, and 2007 of noncash payments trends.
  • Payments Study – Development and execution of an annual study (2001-present) to measure payments volumes and payments-related strategic initiatives at top-100 banks.
  • Payments Strategy Research Program – Formation and management of Global Concepts’ syndicated research practice to analyze key industry trends, including:
    • Interchange, drivers of DDA profitability, image exchange market analysis, Check 21 market impact, projections and analysis of ARC vs. image exchange, the evolving role of ACH, the market for branch and remote image capture, the impact of electronic payments growth on NSF/OD revenue for banks.
    • Trends and behavioral drivers behind consumer practices for point of sale and remittance payments, cash access, branch usage, and statement products.
    • Annual market adoption projections for specific treasury services offerings among large corporate customers and small/medium enterprises.
Since joining Global Concepts in 1994, Mr. Stewart has managed or played a primary role in a diverse set of consulting engagements.
 
  • He has assisted strategic planning and product development at the largest banks ranging from cash payments strategies to merchant deposit product design.
  • For suppliers, Stewart has provided research and analysis to support product development in areas from image-item processing to Internet banking and EBPP.
  • Stewart has worked with numerous multi-bank client groups to assess market opportunities for such things as POS check conversion, multi-application chip cards, check safekeeping, electronic commerce applications, and clearinghouse consolidation.
Mr. Stewart holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Grinnell College.
